The area is also home to one of Florida’s highest foreclosure rates.  Add rising unemployment to the mix, and many people living in the Fort Lauderdale area are struggling just to survive.
 
For many of them, the AIDS Insurance Continuation Program can help.  But, many people don't know about this valuable resource.  That’s where the Wellness Center of South Florida can help.
About Us

The Wellness Center of South Florida is a licensed 501(c)(3) non-profit organizaton in the state of Florida founded by Heidi Andrus in 1996. The Wellness Center is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing place for the HIV community of Broward County.

We believe that each of us needs to be well informed consumers and active participants with our physicians in our treatment decisions.

We believe that the strength created by peer support is crucial to long-term health and survival.

We believe that cooperation, peace and tranquility helps us to control and overcome many of the problems associated with living with HIV.

After almost 15 years of experience, The Wellness Center of South Florida has become a source of trusted vital information for those in the HIV community and it is this knowledge that empowers an individuals strength.

Although all services are provided free of charge to our participants, donations are very much needed and warmly appreciated. We are proud of the fact that 90 percent of our funding goes directly towards client care and services.

Our highly trained volunteers are dedicated to the support, personal growth and wellbeing of all HIV positive members of our community.

Our volunteers and support team follow all the guidelines and training put forth by the Health Council of South Florida.

The Wellness Center of South Florida Offers Help to HIV Positive Residents 

Wilton Manors, FL November 1, 2010 -- Are you HIV positive? Have you been laid off from your job? Are you worried about losing your health insurance? Is the thought of paying for your medical bills stressing you out?  Take a deep breath and try to relax!   The Wellness Center of South Florida may be able to help even while you are still at your job!  Even after 18 months of COBRA - we will pay for your individual conversion up to $750 per month! 

Under the AIDS Insurance Continuation Program (AICP) you can continue with your current insurance. The friendly staff at the Wellness Center can provide you with details and enrollment.  AICP is a publicly funded statewide program that pays the monthly or quarterly health insurance premiums for clients who are eligible. The AICP does not provide health insurance policies to clients. It merely allows them continue with their current health insurance. 

There is help available for those who need it. In these difficult economic times, it's important that everyone in our area knows about the AICP program.  

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements: 
Florida resident. 
Diagnosis of AIDS or HIV+ with symptoms. 
Annual income of no more than $41,600 (for one person) 
Currently covered by private health insurance.  (Includes COBRA, group, family or individual policies). 
Willing to sign all forms and provide eligibility information.
